Digital Film Making

This competency-based co
urse provides students an introduction to creating digital video projects. This beginning class provides training on the use of digital camcorders, tripods, audio mixing, lighting equipment and non-linear editing software.
This project-based course emphasizes confidence and competence building strategies to train students on these digital video tools as well as video techniques, pre production planning, scripting and story organization. The movies that are created in this class include student films of interest, PSA (Public Service Announcements) interviews, how to videos, commercials, silent films and music video production.
Student projects are showcased at the annual SCOE Career Technical Education Film Festival, and students have the opportunities to enter other local film festivals. In addition to class hours, additional hours and homework will be required outside of class time. The course time is split between formal instruction, in the classroom, and hands-on video production on the school campus. Students work both in groups, and as individuals, to produce several video projects each semester.
This course meets CSU and UC Requirements for Visual and Performing Arts or Elective.

* Freshman may only participate in this class as part of a designated career pathway or upon the completion of the Junior High Digital Video Step up Class which is offered for one week each summer.
